A new version of the predator software is now available: this new version contains a setting specific for divers that use an electronically controlled rEvo, but don’t dive the unit in hybrid mode, but in pure eCCR mode. (however not recommended by rEvo!)

When diving the rEvo in pure electronic mode, the orifice is plugged, and the absolute pressure disk on the oxygen regulator is removed: the first stage is now a standard depth compensated regulator. (when diving in hybrid mode, with the orifice bleeding, the oxygen first stage has the cap installed, and so works as an absolute pressure regulator, not depth compensated)

The V42 contains many other new features, including optional VPM algorithm. Please consult the Shearwater website for details.

Before installing the new software however, make sure your unit has as software version higher then V34, if not, please read carefully:
Important Predator Upgrade Notice

Users of Predator Firmware V34 and lower must update to the Predator Transition Firmware first. After the Transition Firmware update is complete update to Firmware V42 from the System Setup > Load Upgrade menu. To transfer the firmware to the Predator install Shearwater Desktop and use the Dive Computer > Update Firmware menu.

Now: how do you use the new setting: “Solenoid Depth Compensation”?

rEvo Hybrid Models: Use OFF setting!

The solenoid is supplied by an ‘absolute pressure’ or ‘fixed pressure’ first stage. This means as the depth increases, the solenoid supply pressure does not change with respect to surface pressure, so the gas density of the supply gas stays the same, the solenoid on-time remains the same as it would on the surface. Thus, no depth compensation needed or wanted.

rEvo eCCR Models: Use ON setting!

On an eCCR, the solenoid is supplied by a normal, ‘depth compensating’ first stage, so the supply pressure is always a fixed amount above ambient pressure. However, since gas density now rises as the depth increases, the solenoid on-time must shorten, to create the same rise in PPO2 with each injection, as compared to on the surface. Thus, depth compensation is needed. If the depth compensation is not active in pure eCCR diving, the controller tend to overshoot at great depths.

The default on rEvo controllers is OFF. (diving in hybrid mode)
